Overview

Add a digital potentiometer to your development or prototyping board with this Digital Potentiometer board. Provides an 8-bit (256 step) linear digital potentiometer based on Microchip's MCP41010 digital potentiometer IC, which interfaces to a microcontroller serially by SPI serial bus. The board plugs onto MikroElektronika's PIC, dsPIC, AVR and 8051 development and prototyping boards, although could also be interfaced to your own circuits and other development boards.

MCP41010 Digital Potentiometer

Microchip's MCP41010 single-channel digital potentiometer features 8-bit resolution (256 wiper steps) and an industry-standard SPI serial interface. The wiper position varies linearly and is controlled via the SPI interface. The MCP41010 has a resistance value of 10kΩ, outstanding AC and DC characteristics and consumes <1µA during static operation. Applications for the MCP41010 digital potentiometer include audio equipment (volume and tone controls), servo-motor control, battery charging and control, communications (line impedance matching), power supplies, instrumentation (gain, offset adjust), LCD contrast control and programmable filters.
