Overview

The DAC board provides a 12-bit analogue output and is based on Microchip's MCP4921 D/A converter IC with rail-to-rail output, which interfaces to microcontrollers serially by SPI bus. The board also features a jumper to configure the voltage reference as coming either from Vcc or a 4.096V reference. Designed for use with MikroElektronika's PIC, dsPIC, AVR and 8051 development and prototyping boards, although could also be interfaced to your own circuits and other development boards.

MCP4921 12-bit Digital-to-Analogue Converter

Microchip Technology's MCP4921 single channel DAC offers 12-bit resolution coupled with low power consumption and small package size. Communication with the device is accomplished via a simple serial interface using SPI protocols. These DACs come with excellent differential non-linearity of less than ±0.75 LSB, making them well suited for set point control, offset adjustment and calibration applications. The low power consumption and small packages (8-pin) make these devices attractive for many portable and battery-powered applications.
